LIVINGSTON — Livingston Parish school officials have taken legal steps to complete the donation of land for a planned Denham Springs-area elementary school, officials said Wednesday.

The act of donation for 19 acres for the new Juban Parc Elementary School was signed and filed into the parish courthouse last week, Delia Taylor, spokeswoman for the school system, said Wednesday.

Completion of the donation means the board may seek construction bids for the school, said Lionell Richardson, project manager with Alvin Fairburn and Associates LLC.

Last month, the board granted permission to advertise for bids for the elementary school.

In March, school officials completed the act of donation paperwork for 22 acres for the proposed Juban Parc Junior High School, school officials said in a statement.

The system began advertising for bids for that school in mid-April but extended the deadline by about two weeks until May 29, Richardson said.

In May 2007, Denham Springs-area voters approved a $26 million, 25.82-mill bond issue to pay for new schools to keep up with population growth.

In February 2007, Renaissance Development Group LLC announced it would donate tracts totaling 41 acres next to its Juban Parc subdivision, which is near Juban Road south of Interstate 12.

Superintendent Randy Pope said in the statement Wednesday that the schools are scheduled to open for the 2009-10 school year.
